New Seasons School of Massage was founded in Soldotna to address the real and growing need for licensed massage therapists across rural Alaska.
From a Soldotna clinic to a Kenai Peninsula massage school.
Kara Hawley became a licensed massage therapist in 2003. In 2008, she opened New Seasons Bodywork, Inc. in Soldotna, Alaska. In 2015, her husband Josh joined her after becoming a Certified Rolfer of Structural Integration. Together they have built a thriving practice — and through their day-to-day work, they came face to face with how few licensed massage therapists are available across the Kenai Peninsula.
The nearest massage school is in Anchorage, and there are only a few schools in the entire state. So in 2025, Josh and Kara partnered with Alpha School of Massage — a longstanding institution with campuses across the country — to bring a proven curriculum to Soldotna while teaching it themselves, on the ground, where students live and work.
Hands-on Training in Alaska
We are dedicated to delivering high-quality, hands-on training to rural communities. The school offers a comprehensive 625-hour program that fully meets Alaska state licensing requirements, with a focus on clinical, medical, spa, sports, and relaxation techniques — emphasizing small class sizes (6–8 students per instructor) and an affordable student clinic open to the public. Our Massage Therapy Program is the perfect mix of online and hands-on training. While some classes, like Anatomy and Physiology, are fine to deliver online, massage training needs hands-on instruction and live practice. Our program is designed to blend the two perfectly.

A licensed massage therapist for more than 20 years across clinical, resort, and spa settings — including The Broadmoor (Colorado Springs) and The Adich Clinic (Bellingham, WA). Kara founded New Seasons Bodywork in 2008 and has co-led the practice for over 15 years.
